ABOUT BLACK BOX THEATRE

BLACK BOX THEATRE seeks to ignite change through art that challenges, connects, and enriches both our audiences and artists. By delving into new creations and revitalizing classic works, we commit to being adaptable in our production methods and to continually reflect on our purpose and impact within the community.

OUR TEAM consists of co-founders James Barclay and Artistic Director Tracy Labrosse.

JAMES BARCLAY is an actor, screenwriter, playwright, and director who was born and raised in Vancouver. He spent more than a decade working in the European film industry, where he wrote and directed national commercials, short films, independent features, and television pilots. During this time, he had the opportunity to collaborate with acclaimed actors including Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones), Ulrich Thomsen (Banshee), and Zlatko Burić (Triangle of Sadness). After returning to Canada, Barclay shifted his focus from film back to his first love—the stage. His recent credits include productions of The Play That Goes Wrong by Mischief Theatre, The Dining Room by A. R. Gurney, and Kiss the Moon, Kiss the Sun by Norm Foster. Two of his own plays, Wonderwall and The Movie Star, will be hitting Granville Island stages in 2026. Find James on Instagram

TRACY LABROSSE has been a dedicated member of the Vancouver theatre scene for over 30 years, with a deep passion for every aspect of the craft. From performing and directing to set and sound design, she thrives on being immersed in the creative process. A recipient of both CTC and Theatre BC Festival awards, Tracy continues to bring passion and dedication to the stage.
